The weekend is in sight! And this weekend, Metro Detroit’s Eastside has a top notch Train Expo, 1-2 Halloween/Fall events likely within a half-mile radius of wherever you find yourself, a breast cancer awareness walk, two great local author readings at the adorable Coreander’s Children’s Bookshoppe (a great place to get cozy in case it does rain), and lots more. These are just some of the extra special one-off events happening in the area. In addition to these, there are so many sweet library offerings, open play opportunities at local museums and businesses, fun and educational events at our local nature centers and more. Train Expo: Detroit on Track @ DNR Outdoor Adventure Center | October 17-18, 11:00-3:00 – This weekend, the Outdoor Adventure Center will have model trains set up beginning on Friday, plus train rides and Bosco’s Train Load of Fun shows on Saturday (be sure to register for those in advance!).
Celebrate Halloween in style at the Friendship Factory – Friendship Factory will be collaborating with the cast and crew of next month’s Beetlejuice Jr. show to host a Beetlejuice Jr. Halloween Party (ages 5+) with crafts, music, and lots of fun on Friday, October 17. Kids over five can also check out their Spooky-Sparkle Halloween Party on Sunday, October 19. Both events are drop-off encouraged, so you can take some time for yourself – and maybe even have your own Spooky-Sparkle Halloween Party, you do you!
Drop-In Workshop: Make a Mask! @ Detroit Institute of Arts | Friday to Sunday, hours vary – Whether it’s for an upcoming Halloween costume, or simply an expressive piece of art, the DIA will have everything you need to make beautiful masks at this weekend’s drop-in workshop (6:00-8:30pm on Friday, 12:00-4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday). The DIA’s weekend workshops are included with general admission (which is FREE for residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties).
Enjoy back-to-back Halloween Festivals in The Clem – The Mount Clemens Farmers Market is hosting their Halloween Harvest Fest bright and early from 7:00am-1:00pm on Saturday morning with trick or treating, a chance to guess the weight of the pumpkin, and some sweet photo ops. Just up the road, Downtown Mount Clemens kicks off its Halloween Spooktacular from 12:00-3:00, with more trick or treating, a cake walk, and visits from Rosco the Clown and the Mount Clemens Fire Department.
DIY-U: Play Firehouse @ Lowe’s | October 18, 10:00-1:00 – It’s fire safety month! And Lowe’s is celebrating with a Play Firehouse build at their monthly DIY-U workshops happening at local stores.
Sterling Frights @ Dodge Park | October 18, 10:00-1:00 – Sterling Frights returns to Dodge Park this weekend for a super fun, family-friendly fall and Halloween festival. They’ll have harvest festival classics like hay rides, a straw maze, and photo opportunities, plus trick or treating, rides, cider and donuts and more! They’ll also be collecting canned goods for the Community Food Bank of Macomb, so if you have any you can spare, be sure to bring them!
Family Fall Fest @ English Gardens | October 18, 10:00-3:00 – Another home and garden store bringing the fun this weekend! Face painting, pumpkin decorating, yard games, treats, and more will be set up at at the Clinton Township English Gardens location (and their Plymouth, Royal Oak & West Bloomfield locations too).

Catch a local author reading at Coreander’s Children’s Bookshoppe | October 18, 10:30 and October 19, 1:30 – Coreander’s Children’s Bookshoppe is featuring two amazing, local children’s book authors this weekend to read from their latest works: The Best Friend Crew by Carol Lomasney and Blast Off, Eleanor! by Jessica Trammel. These events are free, but tickets are required to hold your place.
Pink’o’ween @ Joe Louis Greenway – Warren Trailhead | October 18, 11:00-3:00 – The Joe Louis Greenway Partnership is honoring survivors and raising awareness for breast cancer with a family-friendly fall festival and an awareness walk on the greenway. Bring your costumes!
Corktown’s Annual Children’s Pumpkin Festival! @ The Murphy Playground | October 18, 3:00-6:00 – Don your costumes and head to the Murphy Playground in Corktown this weekend for some not-too-spooky fun at their Annual Children’s Pumpkin Festival! They’ll have a creepy craft fair, fortune telling, trick or treating, and games!
Wally’s Trunks & Treats Spooktacular @ Wally’s Frozen Custard | October 19, 3:00-5:00 – Show off your costumes, get some candy, meet the ghostbusters, and raise money for Kids on the Go!
