Happy almost weekend! As always, there’s tons of fun to look forward to on Metro Detroit’s Eastside. You can catch a live show, a movie, or some winter wonderland magic at Cadillac Lodge and Michigan Central. Plus, Motor City Comic Con, bug fun, and a Lantern Walk with Kintsugi Village School! Read on for all the details.

In addition to these, there are so many sweet library offerings, open play opportunities at local museums and businesses, fun and educational events at our local nature centers and more. Winter Fun in Downtown Detroit! | All Weekend! – While the Detroit Tree Lighting is still a week away, plenty of Winter Wonderland fun is kicking off downtown. Winter at the Station, Cadillac Lodge, Downtown Detroit Markets, and 1001 Winter Wonders are all great ways to ease into the festive spirit while enjoying the beauty of the city all dressed up!
Go to the Theatre! | Various Times – Theatre lovers are in luck this weekend! A Christmas Story, Frozen, and Beetlejuice are all playing, with multiple showings and a sensory-friendly option for Beetlejuice on Saturday!
Motor City Comic Con | Friday through Sunday – While not on the Eastside, this event is worth the drive for Comic Con enthusiasts. This year Motor City Comic Con has a pretty stacked Kids Room line-up including story times, crafting, and slime-making and even a Kids Cosplay Contest on Sunday!
Cozy up with a good movie | November 14 & 15 – Kydventure’s monthly Kydcinema event is this Friday at 6pm, and kids six and older (and ages 4-5 with a parent) can be dropped off to enjoy “Little Giants,” popcorn, and drinks! Just make sure you register today, November 13! On Saturday, Grosse Pointe Public Library’s Central Branch will be showing short, animated, dino-themed picture book tales in the morning and you can catch Monster’s Inc. at Detroit Public Library’s Main Branch in the afternoon!
DIY-U: Letterbox @ Lowe’s (Various) | November 15, 10:00am-1:00pm – Kids can get crafty at Lowe’s DIY-U workshop this weekend and make festive letterboxes to hold cards and countdown to the holidays! Lowe’s DIY-U workshops are always free, but you do need to register.
Incredible Insects and Friends @ DNR Outdoor Adventure Center | November 15, 10:30am-12:30pm and 1:30pm to 3:30pm – Kyle Kandilian of Roach Crossing will be bringing some many-legged friends to the Outdoor Adventure Center on Saturday for bug lovers to learn about and even get hands-on with! This event is included with the price of admission too!
Songs in Anishinaabemowin @ Detroit Institute of Arts | November 15, 2:00-3:00pm – Helen Peltier Fuhst will be transforming classic hits by artists like Elvis and Tom Petty into Anishinaabemowin, the Indigenous language of the Great Lakes in this family-friendly event at the DIA. Other family-friendly events at the DIA this weekend include Abstract Initial Tiles drop-in workshops and Drawing in the Galleries: Islamic World!
Kids Christmas Open House at Small Favors | November 16, 12:00pm-4:00pm – Get holiday-ready in downtown Grosse Pointe with cocoa, cookies, coloring, and a chance to make a Santa Wish List while checking out the new(ish) Toy Store addition at Small Favors.
Open House & Lantern Walk at Kintsugi Village | November 16, 4:30pm-5:30pm – Kintsugi Village School opened up last month and they’re having another Open House followed by a sweet Lantern Walk in Roosevelt Park for current and prospective families!
