Opening to the public on August 1\, 2025\, this dynamic installation transforms the boundaries between sport\, art\, and community participation. \nHORSE reimagines the basketball court as a site of creativity\, memory\, and public engagement. Inspired by Winston’s signature use of found and culturally charged materials\, this interactive experience invites visitors to engage with art through motion\, reflection\, and play. Central to the installation is a sculptural “hoop tree” that reimagines the familiar form of the basketball hoop into a sprawling\, seven-armed tree supporting 21 hoops at varying heights\, angles\, and orientations. It invites young readers to develop empathy and a deeper appreciation for the natural world\, showing how even the smallest acts of kindness can ripple through a great\, big world. \nFeaturing stunning watercolor illustrations by acclaimed Ann Arbor artist John Megahan\, Into the Thicket is a story families will return to again and again. \nAuthor Gail Kuhnlein \nGail Kuhnlein is “as happy as a lark” to publish her first children’s picture book. She’s been writing stories since she was young. She’s just as excited about her new picture book\, Into the Thicket. \nGail majored in journalism and public relations at Michigan State University. She worked in the field for over 30 years\, most recently at the University of Michigan’s Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. People she met at UM were instrumental in publishing her picture books\, a long-awaited dream come true. \nShe savors life with her husband\, Tim\, just outside Ann Arbor\, Michigan. They adore their two adult sons\, Davey and Trevor and bunk with the sweetest kitties in the galaxy \nTickets \nThis is a free event requiring a ticket to hold your place. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and is limited to 15 guests. We ask that if you are unable to attend\, you return your spot on Eventbrite so that someone else can use it. Please only reserve ONE TICKET PER GUEST for children 6 months and older\, Parents/guardians do not need a ticket. We will use our sense of touch to determine what mysterious features of some of our favorite “Halloween” wildlife are hidden within mystery buckets. \nWhose Bones?\nLet’s get scientific with skulls! Join us on an investigation of the skeletal parts of some of our favorite “Halloween” wildlife. Using calcified clues\, you’ll have a chance to determine whose bones are at our various skull stations. \nHarvest Fun\nJoin us for harvest-themed games. Gather your family and friends to play spider leg ring toss or enjoy some pumpkin tic-tac-toe! A variety of options will be available for drop-in harvest fun. \n1:30-3:30 p.m.:\nZombie Archery\nThis is your opportunity to give archery a try! For this seasonal session\, we will practice our skills on paper zombie targets. Participants will learn to safely handle a bow and shoot several arrows. DESCRIPTION:Library Street Collective is excited to announce HORSE: A Game for Everyone by artist Tyrrell Winston\, supported by Bedrock Detroit. Opening to the public on August 1\, 2025\, this dynamic installation transforms the boundaries between sport\, art\, and community participation. \nHORSE reimagines the basketball court as a site of creativity\, memory\, and public engagement. Inspired by Winston’s signature use of found and culturally charged materials\, this interactive experience invites visitors to engage with art through motion\, reflection\, and play. Central to the installation is a sculptural “hoop tree” that reimagines the familiar form of the basketball hoop into a sprawling\, seven-armed tree supporting 21 hoops at varying heights\, angles\, and orientations. Part monument\, part playground\, the work invites direct engagement\, encouraging visitors to step into the space\, pick up a ball\, and play. \nImage Source
