SUMMARY:The Art of Air @ Detroit Balloon Store
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Detroit Balloon Store : The Art of Air event! \nCome join us for 3 day filled with creativity and inspiration inside Detroit Balloon Store . The Art of Air at Detroit Balloon Store is led\, designed and exhibited by Detroit native\, born and raised award winning international renowned Certified Balloon Artist\, Cathryn Coleman\, CBA\, MBA\, CEO. \nWhat was once a 37-year-vacant beer and wine store with no roof and no floor — scheduled for demolition — has been rehabilitated and revitalized into Detroit’s first balloon store\, community hub\, and creative space. The Art of Air is a three-day immersive event celebrating that transformation\, using balloons not just as decoration\, but capturing the depth of balloon art advocating it as sustainable art inspired through adversity into a pillar symbol of hope. \n✨ What to Expect: \n•    Multiple large-scale balloon installations built with biodegradable\, 100% natural latex balloons and eco-friendly design practices. \n•    Sculptures incorporating recycled cotton and reusable frames\, proving sustainability and balloon art are one of the same. \n•    A vibrant beautiful new mural on the storefront\, created in partnership with Felle Art\, Artist and the Dan Gilbert Family Foundation. \n•    Photo-worthy\, interactive balloon artistry instaallations that turns air itself into inspiration iwht captivating and remarkable thought provoking designs. \n•    Shopping inside the newly restored building split designed intentionally with a 3000 square foot community venue rental and Detroit’s 1ST Ever\, Detroit Balloon Store. \n🌍 Why It Matters that we float “higher” with Balloon Art in Detroit: \nThe Art of Air is more than an exhibit — it’s the story of advocacy\, resilience\, and community pride. A building once left for dead is now a source of joy\, creativity\, and sustainable celebration. Balloons used in this exhibit are made from renewable\, biodegradable latex\, and all materials are responsibly reused or recycled. \n📍 Where: Detroit Balloon Store\, 13238 Fenkell Ave\, Detroit\, MI 48227 \n📅 When: September 19–21\, 2025 (during Detroit Month of Design) \n🎟 Admission: Free and open to the public (registration HIGHLY encouraged)\, Donations deeply Appreciated. \nConcessions and Printed Pictures will be available for purchase. \nCome see how a vacant building that was once a eyesore to the community inspired Cathryn of the possibilities that were deep within and what it could do for the community. Inspiration was cultivated and was reborn\, how air can become art\, and how Detroit continues to rise — one balloon at a time with Detroit Balloon Store leading the path to FLOAT HIGH! \nImage Source

SUMMARY:Harvest Festival @ Palmer Park
DESCRIPTION:Free Family Fun!\nAutumn in Detroit would not be complete without a hayride through Palmer Park’s colorful trails through its historic Old Growth Forest. People for Palmer Park’s annual Harvest Festival on Saturday\, September 20 from 1-4 pm celebrates the Fall Equinox — the official first day of fall —with a bountiful harvest of the Palmer Park apple trees\, and free family fun and activities for all ages! \nThe area across from the Splash Park on Merrill Plaisance\, adjacent to People for Palmer Park’s Community Garden and Community House at 990 Merrill Plaisance\, will be feature a petting zoo\, where children can interact with adorable animals\, brush and learn how to groom and care for them and dress them up in unicorn and magical fashions; pumpkin picking and decorating; and arts and crafts for those looking to showcase their artistic talents. Children ride a pony\, pet a snake\, or make nature crowns in PFPP’s big blue art tent. The Huron Clinton Metropark Mobile Learning Center will provide hands-on fun with furs\, feathers\, skulls\, skeletons\, artifacts\, as well as snakes and other live animals. Live entertainment will be ongoing with music\, storytelling\, and more. \nThe season’s favorites will be served: apple tasting (with several different varieties of the Palmer Park apples)\, apple cider and donuts for the first 500\, and freshly-roasted corn on the cob. There will also be additional food for purchase. \n“HarvestFest is a wonderful opportunity for families and friends to enjoy the beauty of the season and create lasting memories together\,” explains Stacy Varner\, People for Palmer Park’s President\, “it is also a fascinating event for all ages to learn about how our food is grown\, the lives of farm animals\, and nature in the park. We are thrilled to continue the tradition of holding free community celebrations in Palmer Park\, started by the Palmer family in the late 1800s.” \nMore than a century ago\, Senator Thomas Palmer and his wife Lizzie Merrill Palmer often would invite guests to enjoy their Log Cabin Farm\, drink freshly pressed apple cider\, and enjoy the harvest. Palmer donated the land in the late 1800s to the City of Detroit to serve as a park “for the good of all.” In honor of the harvest and in tribute to the Palmer legacy\, this event follows this legacy. \nThe event takes place next to Palmer Park’s Community House on Merrill Plaisance near Pontchartrain\, between McNichols and Seven Mile Roads\, west of Woodward Avenue. Parking is available at the Splash Park parking lot. \nSponsors: Presented by People for Palmer Park with the support of the City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Dept.\, Del Bene Produce\, Eastern Market\, AETNA. Special thanks to Home Depot for a grants and volunteers that made it possible to build the PFPP Educational Garden.\n\nImage Source (credit: Barbara Barefield)

SUMMARY:HORSE: A Game for Everyone @ 1001 Woodward
DESCRIPTION:Library Street Collective is excited to announce HORSE: A Game for Everyone by artist Tyrrell Winston\, supported by Bedrock Detroit. Opening to the public on August 1\, 2025\, this dynamic installation transforms the boundaries between sport\, art\, and community participation. \nHORSE reimagines the basketball court as a site of creativity\, memory\, and public engagement. Inspired by Winston’s signature use of found and culturally charged materials\, this interactive experience invites visitors to engage with art through motion\, reflection\, and play. Central to the installation is a sculptural “hoop tree” that reimagines the familiar form of the basketball hoop into a sprawling\, seven-armed tree supporting 21 hoops at varying heights\, angles\, and orientations. Part monument\, part playground\, the work invites direct engagement\, encouraging visitors to step into the space\, pick up a ball\, and play. \nImage Source
