Sensory-Friendly Evenings @ The Detroit Zoo
Starting in June, the Detroit Zoo is hosting three Sensory Friendly Evenings for guests with different sensory needs. Sensory Friendly Evenings will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. June 26, July 7 and Aug. 30. During these times, the Zoo and its attractions will be open to all visitors, but special accommodations will be in place to ensure the Zoo can be enjoyed by families and individuals of all abilities. Gates close at 6:30 p.m. on Sensory Friendly Evenings.

The library has been taken over by animals! Take a walk around the library grounds and see if you spot them all. Children ages 12 and under are invited to stop in the library first and make their very own pair of binoculars to assist them on this safari.

Nature Play for Pre-K: Water Play! @ DNR Outdoor Adventure Center
All participants ages 3-5 are invited for our Nature Play for Pre-K series, exploring a different topic every month. This series is hands-on with a discovery focus. We will start with an introduction inside and then head outside to explore, so please come dressed and prepared for the weather!
In July, we will be looking at who uses the water and in what ways and taking a “dive” into different water play. Come dressed to play in the water!

Turtle Trek @ Lake St Clair Metropark
Turtles are one of southeast Michigan’s most interesting residents. Hear all about their relation to dinosaurs, unique adaptations, and get up close with some of our nature center turtles. After the animal meet and greet we’ll go for a hike through the marsh to find turtles out in the wild.
What to Expect:
This program starts indoors and ends outside. The time, approximately 75 minutes, will be spent on a leisurely walk with frequent stops. The planned path surface is dirt and gravel, and mostly level and flat. For maximum enjoyment, some of our program time will require all participants to patiently remain quiet and listen closely.
Ages: Fun for all ages!
Time: 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Cost: $3 per child, $5 per adult, children under 2 Free!
Location: Lake St. Clair Metropark, Nature Center
Pre-registration is required by 4 p.m. the day before the program.

Little Critters @ Lake St Clair Metropark
This class for our youngest learners will ignite excitement for nature by focusing each month on a well-known animal, plant, or natural occurrence. Through stories, crafts and nature exploration kids will collect information about these fun topics. With this new knowledge, kids and families can gain confidence with outdoor nature play and experience the joy and wonder of nature.
What to Expect:
This session takes places indoors and outdoors throughout the year and is designed for caregiver and child to participate in together. The planned path surfaces are compact gravel, grass, or lawn and are mostly flat and level.
